Body and Mind

These programmes were designed in consultation with experts from the Addictive Behaviour Prevention Unit at Roehampton Institute.

Between 3,000 and 5,000 young people are believed to have a serious eating disorder.

This is a practical workshop designed specifically for young people to explore and express their thoughts and feelings on the subject of flings on the subject of food and body image. It encourages the development of a positive self-image in a creative environment.
The work is lively, fun and full of feeling. The effect is to create a debate in action, where everyone's voice can be heard and considered. Common issues that are covered in this workshop include:
  • Asking for help.
  • Recognising and approaching a young person with an eating disorder.
  • Understanding and fighting the media messages.
  • Encouraging a positive body image.
  • What is fat?

 

This programme relates to National Curriculum Health Education Guidelines at Key-stages 3 & 4.

Food and Nutrition

* Understand the relationship between food, body image and self-esteem [Key-stage 4].

* Have accurate information to enable them to distinguision to enable them to distinguish between fact, propaganda and folklore in dietary matters [Key-stage 4].

Environmental Aspects of Health Education

* Understand the impact of the media and advertising on attitudes towards health [Key-stage 3].
